We are seeking a Principal Electronics Engineer with hands-on end-to-end electronic design, assembly, integration, and test experience to join our Emerging Technologies team.

The Emerging Technologies Department works on cutting-edge research involving innovative design, selection, and implementation of emerging opto-electronics components.  As part of the team, you will work alongside other experienced engineers and scientists to develop novel, cutting-edge solutions and facilitate the transition of new technologies out of Research and Development into practical applications.

Responsibilities:

Design & Development:
 
  • Lead the design and development of electronic systems from requirements definition, through schematic capture, board layout, prototyping, troubleshooting, design optimization and design for manufacturing
  • Design and develop microcontroller (C) and FPGA firmware (Verilog/VHDL) including real time scheduler, hardware specific subroutines, interrupt service routines, device drivers, power management modules and communications functions
  • Oversee design validation and verification testing of embedded hardware and firmware systems, identifying and correcting problem areas and design deficiencies while maintaining engineering documentation of the development and optimization process
  • Ensure your technical design quality and design practices follow the applicable Intellisense practices and performance standards.

Peer Review & Development:
 
  • Oversee development of Mixed Signal Analog and high-speed Digital Electronic hardware designs including architecture development, component selection, schematic capture, and review of PCB layout as needed for military and/or avionics products
  • Participate in internal hardware design reviews
  • Mentor junior colleagues and help troubleshoot problems across multiple projects across multiple platforms
  • Perform peer circuit and code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback to your team members
  • Develop and review technical data packages for assigned projects
  • Prepare and contribute to technical documents such as proposals and reports
  • Interface with our internal multidisciplinary engineering team, management, and external stakeholders including customers, design engineering representatives, and contractors to ensure hardware design quality and customer satisfaction
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Technical Skills:
 
  • Minimum of B.S.in Electrical Engineering or related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Significant experience (12+ years) in the design of embedded systems hardware and firmware for high reliability or mission critical systems (Military/Aerospace)
  • In depth, practical, hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting complex circuits – hardware and firmware – to the component level
  • A history of developing real time, deterministic firmware to control, monitor, and supervise embedded electronics hardware in mission critical military and industrial systems
  • Experience in research and development to provide innovative solutions, technologies, and methodologies

People & Communication Skills
 
  • Project leadership while designing products for manufacturability from start to finish on an integrated product team
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) including generating engineering design drawings/documentation and presenting design progress during major project milestones (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR)

Nice to Haves:
 
  • Intellisense primarily utilizes Altium Designer with Concord Pro and Xilinx Vivado, therefore experience with these design packages
  • Experience with MIL-STD testing
  • Experience with standard communication interfaces such as: I2C, SPI, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, USB 2.0/3.0, Ethernet, Gigabit-Ethernet, CANbus, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429, or ARINC-708.

Pay Range:

$150,000-$210,000
However, base salary for this position will vary based on your skills, qualifications, and experience.
