Research Scientist (LIDAR)

Intellisense Systems, Inc. is looking for an exceptional Research Scientist (LIDAR) to join our Emerging Technology team.  The candidate will be responsible to significantly contribute to/lead cutting-edge LIDAR research and development involving innovative design (simulations), selection, and implementation of optoelectronic components, signal processing, data analytics, as well as system integration, testing, and troubleshooting.  Understanding and experience with UV/VIS/IR active and passive components, optical, opto-mechanical, and opto-electronic system design, image processing, atmospheric remote sensing using LIDAR, EO/IR sensors, night vision, and digital electronics are desired.

The candidate will have a fundamental understanding of the techniques applied with the ability to conduct research and apply established/conventional/traditional and emerging techniques. The candidate shall be able to research and provide solutions to meet the customer requirements and contribute to lead efforts in system architecture design and development, modeling, analytical simulation, lab prototyping and testing, data acquisition, processing, and analysis. This is a hand-on research and development position with some project management responsibilities.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead new concept development, architecture design and implementation activities related to remote sensing Lidar system development including performance simulation, prototyping, and testing.
  • Apply experience in the use of modern programming, modeling, and simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, ZEMAX, MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, Python, OpenGL and OpenCV libraries, etc.) to help develop new technologies. Familiarity with any atmospheric simulation software (MODTRAN, etc.) is a plus.
  • Work alongside with technical team in researching, selecting, evaluating, and/or developing component/system and packaging for specific applications.
  • Interact with government and non-government representatives to ensure the customer requirements are fully understood and addressed.
  • Lead/provide technical write-ups related to system, hardware, and software development on bids and proposals.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

What You’ll Bring:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Applied Physics, Optical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, plus 5 years of hand-on Lidar development and implementation experience.
  • Experience with opto-electro-mechanical designs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrated through the preparation of documentation, technical reports, and proposals, and presentations at meetings.
  • Ability to present technical concepts and designs to Senior Management and customers.
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is required
